The 28-Slovenian Olympic champion, who was second also after the first run, finished 0.79 seconds behind the winner, Austria's Marlies Schild (1:51.42).

Mikaela Shiffrin of the US took the third place, finishing 1.30 seconds behind Schild.

"My first run was good. I was a bit reserved only at the beginning, and in the remainder of the race I was more aggressive," Maze told the press after earning her best World Cup result this season.

With her third place in Austria's Flachau on 20 December and today's second place, Maze has earned 207 points in the World Cup slalom rankings after four events and is trailing only Schild (400 points).

The other two Slovenian representatives did not make it to the finals. Ilka Stuhec was 48th and Marusa Ferk 54th.

Women's World Cup will continue on 3 January in Croatia's Zagreb.
