Ljubljana - The Health Ministry has picked Sanolabor as the supplier of a million rapid antigen test for mass testing for coronavirus. The medical supplier submitted the lowest bid among 22 bidders.

Sanolabor offered EUR 1.37 per test, with the total cost for the state amounting to EUR 1.137 million, show data published on the Public Procurement Portal.

Some 50,000 tests are to be supplied a week. The entire order will have to be delivered by 1 December.

The ministry published the tender on 18 February with 22 bidders responding, of which 12 also provided a sample of a rapid test as the ministry demanded.

Previously, the rapid test had been supplied by the Majbert Pharm group at EUR 1.982 a piece.

The deal with the company was made in late December 2020 and it included the supply of half a million rapid tests.

Only nasal swabbing is done be health authorities in Slovenia for now, but there is talk about the introduction of self-testing kits that involve gargling.
