The competitiveness of the Slovenian economy is being further undermined with each additional day of interregnum, the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) Samo Hribar Milič told the STA.

Janković mustered 42 votes in the 90-member parliament, falling four votes short of the needed absolute majority.

With the rejection of Janković, "the agony which primarily manifests itself on the domestic market and the declining credit ratings will continue," according to Hribar Milič.

The GZS maintains its position that a government which has a slim majority in parliament is not able to make changes Slovenia needs to exit the economic crisis.

"We need different support and stability for such a situation," Hribar Milič said, adding that "an ideal scenario would be that a government which would have at least 52, 53 votes is formed."

The head of the executive committee of the Chamber of Trade Crafts and Small Business (OZS) Štefan Grosar agreed with Hribar Milič, saying that "Slovenia needs a strong government with between 50 and 60 votes".

According to Grosar, the future opposition should also participate in the adoption of reforms.

He added that Slovenia needed a new government as soon as possible, as there are necessary measures waiting to be adopted and implemented.

The Manager Association said that given the seriousness of the situation, politicians are taking too much time for their "moves and manoeuvres", adding that the most important goal is to get a stable government.

Sonja Šmuc, the association's executive director, said that the price will be paid by all citizens and many companies through higher interest rates. "There are no signs that politicians are taking this to their hearts."

Šmuc believes that Janković would not be only a talker, but that he would actually try to implement his programme to the highest possible extent, considering his record as businessman and the mayor of Ljubljana.
