National Gallery receives Getty Foundation grant
Ljubljana - The National Gallery has received a Getty Foundation grant for a project presenting the life and work of artist Hinko Smrekar. Director Barbara Jaki told the STA that the EUR 31,000 grant created the opportunity "to present an important segment of artistic history in an international context".
An exhibition on the versatile Slovenian artist Hinko Smrekar (1883-1942) opened at the National Gallery in Ljubljana last week. It is accompanied by a catalogue that presents Smrekar's time, life and work, as well as a list of all his registered works of art and a list of exhibitions.
The Getty Foundation grant will finance the creation of a website dedicated to Smrekar and the translation of a 750-page catalogue into English, curator Michel Mohor told the STA.
National Gallery Director Barbara Jaki said the English translation of the catalogue and the accompanying online presentation will "introduce Smrekar's work to an international audience and place it in the broader context of European art in the early 20th century."
