After the partial shut-down was enforced  in January, the ministry had implemented the repairs ordered by the Civil Aviation Authority to deal with visibility issues at the control tower.

The repairs had also been inspected by new Defence Minister Aleš Hojs during his visit to the air base as part of which he also visited the new air traffic control tower.

While the airport was shut down for civilian traffic, military flights and pilot training had been conducted undisturbed by the Slovenian army, a release from the ministry said.

A new 30-metre-high air traffic control tower was inaugurated in 2010 as part of a EUR 10.8m worth renovation project launched at the airport in 2006.

During the test operation period, it had been established that the special glass installed on the tower was too reflective due to the position of the sun at certain times of the year.

To fix the problem, darker blinds had been placed in the tower.
