Pahor discusses plastic-free world with Rotary International head

Ljubljana - President Borut Pahor received Rotary International president Holger Knaack in Ljubljana on Monday. The pair discussed efforts for a plastic-free world. They talked about the initiative, launched by Rotary Slovenija, which aims to make Slovenia the world's first country with no single-use plastic bottles in five years.

Knaack thanked Pahor for the support he had shown to, the initiative that Rotary Slovenija presented in Bled a month ago.

It is an extraordinary business model, a social innovation that will contribute to solving the global environmental problem of disposal of single-use plastic products, Knaack was quoted as saying by Pahor's office.

Pahor stressed that his office had already become a plastic bottle-free office, also thanks to, and that it should stop using all single-use plastic products by the end of the year. Thus, the president wants to show his personal committent and along with his team contribute to environment protection.

The reception was also attended by Iztok Seljak, Rotary Slovenija governor, and Janez Podobnik, governor assistant for environment.

Pahor also presented the activities of his permanent advisory committee on climate policy, which has been active since November 2019, giving recommendations to decision-makers and thus contributing to the forming of Slovenia's climate policy and sustainable development.
