Volčji Potok - An exhibition of flowers opened in Arboretum Volčji Potok on Saturday to mark the 30th anniversary of Slovenia's independence. It will be on display in ten different spots around the botanical gardens, with visitors being able to admire some 50,000 different flowers that present the natural and cultural heritage of the country.

The Flowers and Peace exhibition in the venue located some 15 kilometres north of Ljubljana pays homage to the first exhibition of flowers staged there 30 years ago, after the Slovenian war for independence.

The exhibition at the time also had the same title, and according to the website of Arboretum Volčji Potok, it "hit the nail on the head" as people wanted "peace, beautiful things, normality and relaxation". It was visited by more than 10,000 people.

This year's exhibition is different as fashion in flower growing was different and flowers were different. "Everything has changes significantly, which we wanted to show with this exhibition," Melita Miš Strgar of the botanical gardens told the STA.

The exhibition also presents Slovenia and its diversity, with thematic sets dedicated to the Alps, waters, Pannonian Plain, Karst, sea coast, castle flowers, vineyards, edible flowers and other topics.

"This exhibition has a symbolic meaning, as we celebrate birthdays and all important events with flowers," added Miš Strgar about the exhibition that will be on display until 29 August.
