Afghan interpreter safely evacuated to Slovenia
Ljubljana - An Afghan interpreter who worked for the Slovenian Armed Forces has been evacuated from Afghanistan and arrived in Slovenia on Friday evening together with his family, the Defence Ministry said.
Accommodation for the family will initially be provided by the ministry and then by the Government Office for the Support and Integration of Migrants. The government has already sorted out their legal status, according to the ministry.
The interpreter is one of two Afghans who worked for the Slovenian army to be eligible for evacuation now that the country has been taken over by the radical Islamist Taliban.
A second interpreter and his family have requested help in leaving Afghanistan but they have not yet arrived in Kabul, the only city from where evacuation is possible.
