Fourth Covid-19 wave escalating

Ljubljana - Slovenia reported 509 coronavirus infections for Wednesday as the test positivity rate stood at 17.4%. The 14-day incidence per 100,000 population rose from 187 to 199 and hospitalisations topped 100, show fresh official figures.

This comes after the country's daily case count exceeded 500 on Tuesday for the first time since mid-May.

The National Institute of Public Health estimates there are currently 4,275 active cases in the country.

The 7-day average of confirmed daily cases increased from 345 to 363.

Hospitalisations were up by 29 to 105 this morning after 12 patients were discharged and ICU cases increased by three to 18, show figures by national data tracker Covid-19 Sledilnik. Another person with Covid died yesterday.

Since the start of the pandemic, Slovenia has confirmed 265,160 coronavirus cases.
