Golden-Bronze Ski-Flying Team Returns Home
Robert Kranjec, who was crowned champion in the individual competition, and his team mates Jurij Tepeš, Jure Šinkovec and Jernej Damjan, who together bagged bronze, were welcomed by numerous fans and reporters at the Brnik airport today.
They were also received by President Danilo Türk, while fans will be able to greet them in Ljubljana tomorrow afternoon.
Among those congratulating the athletes today was also Prime Minister Janez Janša. He said that the ski jumpers proved that persistence, courage, strong will and hard work were the way to the best results.
He said he wished their success would continue and that the name of Slovenia be carried to the very top of this "extraordinary sport discipline" for many times more.
Kranjec, who was in the spotlight today, said that he was just slowly becoming aware of his achievement. "I could finally get some good sleep today. But I wanted to come home as soon as possible to rest a bit. My feelings and everything else is great though."
Šinkovec said the competition had been very tough, but "we worked as a team". "We showed at the very beginning of the season in Harrachov that we can reach for the top places."
The team will stay in Slovenia only for two days before heading to new world cup events in Scandinavia.
