Ljubljana - President Borut Pahor met on Tuesday with members of his permanent advisory committee on climate policy. Slovenia's energy future topped the agenda, with the participants discussing efforts to make the country carbon-neutral and energy self-sufficient, Pahor's office said.

The meeting was also attended by Robert Golob, an expert in the field of electroenergy, Iztok Tiselj, an expert on nuclear energy, and Marko Maver, an environmental law expert.

The invited experts presented the energy supply situation and possibilities. The participants were particularly interested in the possibilities of supplying renewable energy sources.

They also discussed the trends of an increasing demand for electricity and nuclear energy as a resource that is already familiar to Slovenia.

The participants agreed that the country's energy future was an important strategic issue on which a consensus should be reached among experts and the society as a whole.

Pahor and his climate policy advisors therefore decided to actively engage in the debate on Slovenia's energy future and to hold a series of consultations on the subject in the coming months, the president's office said in a press release.
