1,248 new coronavirus infections recorded on Friday

Ljubljana - A total of 1,248 new coronavirus infections were recorded in Slovenia on Friday, according to the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ). Three Covid-19 patients died and the number of patients in hospitals has increased but the share of adults who have received the first shot of a Covid vaccine topped 60%, the government said.

Almost 20% of all PCR tests returned positive on Friday, which is 2.4 percentage points more than the day before.

NIJZ estimates there are currently 12,926 active cases in the country, which is 504 more than the day before.

The 14-day incidence per 100,000 residents has increased by 24 to 611, and the 7-day average by 23 to 1,040.

According to fresh government data published on Twitter, 360 Covid-19 patients are in hospital today, up 12 from the day before, including 91 in intensive care, five more than on Friday.

The youngest patient hospitalised is 26 years old and the youngest patient in intensive care is 27.

The government also stressed on Twitter that 13,778 vaccine shots had been administered on Friday. "We have also reached the 60% vaccination rate among adults with the first shot."

NIJZ data show that 1,078,766 persons have so far received the first shot or 51% of the entire population. The share among those over 18 years old stands at 61% and among those over 50 at 73%.

A total of 965,257 persons have been fully vaccinated so far, which is almost 46% of the population. The share for those over 18 is at 55% and for those over 50 at 67%, the government said.
