Tonin discusses cooperation with Czech counterpart

Prague - Defence Minister Matej Tonin, who is concluding a two-day visit to the Czech Republic on Saturday, meet his Czech counterpart Lubomir Metnar on the sidelines of NATO Days on Friday to discuss cooperation in international operations and bilateral cooperation in defence, including in mountain warfare.

One possibility for cooperation is the NATO Mountain Warfare Centre of Excellence in PoljĨe in the Gorenjska region, so the ministers agreed that the Czech Republic will join the centre in August next year.

In light of the current situation in Afghanistan, the ministers discussed the international security situation, especially in Sahel, where changes in the security situation could significantly affect Europe.

The pair agreed cooperation was needed to ensure stability there.

NATO Days in Ostrava and Czech Air Force Days are among the biggest security shows in Europe. Slovenia was presented with two Pilatus PC-9M planes alongside Austria, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, the US and NATO's multinational fleet.
