President Pahor, Minister Logar attending UN General Assembly

New York - A Slovenian delegation led by President Borut Pahor, who will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Anže Logar, will attend the United Nations General Assembly this week. The high-level general debate starts on Tuesday an Pahor will deliver his address on Friday.

The topic of the general debate, which will feature around 100 world leaders attending in person, will be post-Covid recovery, restoration of sustainability, reaction to the needs of the planet, respect of human rights, and revival of the UN.

Prior to the general debate, Pahor will attend the traditional reception for heads of state and government hosted by Secretary General Antonio Gutteres, with whom he is scheduled to have a one-on-one meeting on Friday.

Pahor will also participate in the Food Systems Summit, one of the many events held on the margins of the UN General Assembly, the president's office said.

Multiple bilateral meetings are planned, including with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Costa Rican President Carlos Alvarado Quesada, Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Minister Logar will separately attend an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers and debates on humanitarian law, global governance, and the strengthening of multilateralism and democracy.

The Foreign Ministry says Slovenia will have a more prominent role as the country presiding the Council of the EU and would strive to "actively assert EU priorities".
