Beekeepers to receive EUR 1.3m in aid

Environment & Nature

Ljubljana - The state will allocate EUR 1.28 million in budget funds for aid to beekeepers who were hit by frost this year, the government decided on Thursday. According to the Slovenian Beekeepers' Association, this year's season was the worst on record.

The government's decree is the basis for providing aid to beekeepers who recorded a drop in revenue due to lower production, the Government Communication office said.

Beekeepers were affected by frost and then by changeable weather in May and the first half of June, which resulted in honey plants not providing the source of nectar for production of honey.

Beekeepers listed in the central register of beehives will be eligible.

The state will provide grants of 6.5-13 euro per bee family.

Beekeepers with a certificate for organic beekeeping will get more funds.

The decree on the aid will be implemented in line with the European Commission regulation on de minimis aid in agriculture.

The funds are to be paid out by the end of the year.
