Diplomatic charity bazaar under way in Ljubljana

Ljubljana - The Slovenian International Ladies' Association (SILA) is holding its annual charity bazaar in the centre of Ljubljana on Saturday. Organised with the help of 35 embassies, the event is being held early this year so it can take place outdoors.

Taking place in the street linking Ljubljana Town Hall and the Triple Bridge, the event is featuring a number of stalls with culinary delights and unique products from various countries and a lively programme for children and grown-ups.

The programme got under way in the morning with a performance by Alpine horn blowers from Switzerland, along with a Swiss flag thrower and a parade of children from Ljubljana sports clubs. Dancers and singers from Indonesia and Russia have also performed.

The annual SILA bazaar is as a rule held in December. It was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus outbreak. To prevent a similar situation due to a potential new lockdown, it was moved to October this year so it can take place outdoors.

Like every year the proceeds from the sale of food and lucky draw will go for charity. The money raised will be allocated for children in need to the youth health resort of Debeli Rtič, the cerebral palsy association Sonček, the Friends of the Youth Metlika charity and the Rakitna climate health resort.

Lali Sladjana Ilić, the head of SILA, has invited everyone to come, for good food, treats, plenty of fun and to socialise. The event is to close at around 4pm.
