Dubai - After focusing on business in the weeks after the official opening, activities at Slovenian pavilion at the Expo Dubai will revolve around space and space technology in the second half of October.

As of Sunday, Slovenian companies will be featured under the Universe topic in the pavilion, while a delegation of space-tech companies will visit the Expo on Wednesday.

The delegation will host a business forum featuring Italian astrophysicist and director of the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs Simonetta Di Pippo, the Spirit Slovenija agency has announced.

The Slovenian pavilion will also host on Wednesday a meeting of top women scientists in the field of space exploration from around the world, which is organised in cooperation with the special thematic Expo pavilion dedicated to women.

Representing Slovenia at the event will be Maruška Strah, a member of the International Institute of Space Law and the executive director of Word Space Week, an international association based in Vienna.

On Saturday, Slovenia will be featured as part of the main EU event at the Expo. The Slovenian pavilion will host a breakfast with young people, with Public Administration Minister Boštjan Koritnik and Maribor Mayor Saša Arsenović attending.

Visitors of the Slovenian pavilion will be invited for a food workshop, and the programme will conclude with a gala concert honouring the EU. Pop-rock artist Tinkara Kovač will represent Slovenia

The pavilion will also host presentations of Slovenian tourism regions, and the first to be featured is Slovenia's second largest city Maribor, whose representatives will host numerous events and business meetings between 23 and 26 October.

"Maribor will be presented on the global stage as a destination of local stories of international proportions ... with the main symbol being the oldest wine in the world, which is still very vital," Jure Struc of the local tourism board has said.

Ljubljana will follow Maribor with presentations focusing on sustainable urban mobility, awareness-raising campaigns about the importance of drinking water and presentation of the legacy of the 20th century architect Jože Plečnik.
