Kranjec went to Planica as the leader in the ski-flying standings but others were closely behind. Kranjec responded in the best possible manner, winning the first individual competition and coming in third in the second. In between, he was fourth with the team. "Psychologically, it has been a very tough weekend, with everyone expecting me to do what I have done," said a visibly exhausted Kranjec after the season-closing event in front of 60,000 fans over four days. He will recharge his batteries on a backpacking trip to India and on a motorbike at a racing circuit. After 2010, this is the second overall win for Kranjec. He says his next goal is to convince journalists that he is not just a ski-flyer but also a ski-jumper.
With 3,412 points and fourth place in the overall standings, this has been the best season in the history of Slovenian ski-jumping. Peter Prevc came of age and was a regular top ten contender until his injury. Jure Šinkovec and JurijTepeš are a step behind but still close. Followingthemarea phalange of young jumpers led by JakaHvala, 18, who spread the ski-jumping virus to the Primorska region.

 

Maze Secures Silver
At the Alpine skiing finale in Schladming, Austria, Tina Maze wrapped up an excellent season. Although she didn't win a single event, she finished on the podium ten times. In the overall standings, she finished a career-best second behind Lindsey Vonn. She was second in the super combined standings, third in slalom, fourth in super-G, fifth in giant slalom and ninth in downhill.
