Novo Mesto - Revoz is switching from two shifts to one and a half on Monday, 15 November, as car manufacturer Renault's Slovenian subsidiary scales down production over uncertainties in the car industry resulting from the global crisis in semiconductors. In the coming months, around 350 of the company's more than 2,400 workers will lose their jobs.

The crisis in the car industry prompted Revoz to suspend production several times before this year, which resulted in production coming to a halt for more than 70 days.

Nevenka Bašek Zildžović, PR head at Revoz, told the STA on Tuesday that in line with their October announcement, some 350 workers would lose their jobs, but no one had yet received a notice of termination. She said that lists of redundancies are still in the making and that "the number of employees will be adjusted in the coming months."

She said that the transition to one and a half shifts meant the company would make only 480 cars a day, down from 650 in two shifts.

When Revoz announced the scaling down of production in early October, the management pledged to help the displaced workers find new employment together with the Employment Service and partner agencies, adding there was much demand for workers on the Slovenian labour market.

Revoz is the only Renault factory manufacturing the Twingo model, but it also makes the electric Twingo, electric Smart, and Clio. Its average daily output is slightly more than 700 vehicles.
