Weekly rise in new coronavirus cases continues, positivity rate at 49%

Ljubljana - Over 49% of PCR tests performed in Slovenia on Monday returned positive, as 3,763 new coronavirus were confirmed in what is a week-on-week increase of 419 cases. The National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) estimates there are now 45,434 active infections in the country. Five Covid-19 patients have died, the government said.

There are currently 1,074 Covid-19 patients in Slovenian hospitals, up 66 from yesterday, including 236 in intensive care, up by 7.

A week ago, 200 fewer Covid-19 patients were in hospital and 43 fewer were in intensive care.

The rolling seven-day average of confirmed cases rose by 60 to 3,284 and the 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 people was up by 124 to 2,154.

As hospitals are struggling to deal with all Covid-19 patients, lacking both staff and equipment, the Slovenian Armed Forces are is assisting them as of today along with Red Cross volunteers, members of the Civil Protection force, and nursing and medical students.
