The strengthening of economic cooperation was one of the main topics of the talks, Erjavec told reporters after the half-hour meeting.

"The US is interested in cooperation with Slovenia; we need to find specific opportunities to sign contracts that could drive economic growth," he said.

Clinton, who did not give statements after the meeting, reportedly thanked Slovenia for its role in securing stability in the Western Balkans.

She also expressed the expectation, according to Erjavec, that Slovenia will continue to take part in NATO's mission in Afghanistan, including in the planned financing of Afghan security forces beyond the scheduled completion of the ISAF mission in 2014.

Erjavec also reported about his recent visit to Croatia, saying that Slovenia would continue its current policy on relations with its southern neighbour.

There is a high probability that Clinton might visit Slovenia. "I hope she will be the principal guest of the Bled Strategic Forum," he said.
