Almost 2,500 new cases confirmed as infections keep receding

Ljubljana - Slovenia logged 2,482 new coronavirus cases for Monday as infections kept receding, with the daily count of newly confirmed infections dropping by over 900 from the same day a week ago, while the test positivity rate remained high at 46.2%. Covid-19 has claimed 16 more lives, data released by the government show.

The rolling 7-day average dropped further to 2,189, down by more than a 100 from the day before, and the cumulative 14-day incidence was also down by just over 60 to 1,760, according to the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ).

Meanwhile, the estimated number of active cases fell by over 1,000 compared to the day before, and by 7,700 week-on-week, currently standing just above 37,000.

According to government data, the number of patients hospitalised with Covid-19 decreased by 28 and currently stands at 1,128. The number of those treated in intensive care was 280 this morning, one fewer than yesterday.

Vaccination is progressing slowly, with 1,148,063 people or 54% of the population fully inoculated, according to NIJZ data. This means 64% of adults or 75% of the over 50-year-olds.

According to the government, 290,137 people have received a booster shot.
