1,116 new infections recorded on Saturday, as epidemic gradually eases

Ljubljana - As many as 1,116 new coronavirus infections were recorded in Slovenia on Saturday, down 24% from a week ago, the figures released on Sunday by the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) show. The 7-day average of new cases dropped by 51 to 1,800 in a day and the 14-day incidence per 100,000 population by 53 to 1,390.

NIJZ now estimates that there were 29,311 people infected with coronavirus in the country on Saturday, a daily drop of 1,121.

The PCR test positivity rate stood at 37.4%, up from 34.6% the day before and down from 43.4% a week ago.

Thirteen patients died on Saturday, up 5 from Friday.

There are now 1,034 Covid-19 patients in Slovenian hospitals, of whom 271 in intensive care, up 5 and 12, respectively, from yesterday. The youngest patient in intensive care is 20 years old.

55% of Slovenia's two-million population has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, with the share among adults (18 year of age or more) at 65%.
