Nearly 1,850 coronavirus cases confirmed as epidemic continues to recede
Ljubljana - A total of 1,847 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Slovenia on Tuesday, a daily drop of 5% and a weekly drop of 18%, show the figures the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) released on Wednesday. 28% of all PCR tests came back positive, a weekly drop of around 4 percentage points. 16 Covid-19 patients died.
NIJZ estimates that there are now 25,966 active infections in the country, down by 1,281 in daily comparison and by over 9,100 from Tuesday last week.
The 7-day average of new cases decreased by 58 to 1,629 in a day, and the 14-day incidence per 100,000 people by 61 to 1,231.
After three weeks, the number of Covid-19 patients fell below 1,000 today - to 963 from 1,005 yesterday. Of these, 258 are in intensive care, a daily drop of 8, government data shows.
The youngest patient in intensive care is 28 years old.
55% of Slovenia's two-million population has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, with the share among adults (aged 18 or above) at 65%.
Almost 330,130 persons have already received a booster shot.
