Steve McCurry, photographer of the famous Afghan Girl, is one of the most acclaimed photographers of our time and the recipient of numerous prestigious photography awards.

He is particularly well known for his suggestive colour photographs reflecting his brilliant documentary style and showing the essence of human effort and joy. As a member of the Magnum Photos agency (since 1986), he searched for and found the unforgettable; many of his photographs have become icons of our time.
McCurry's series of photographs depicting the Russian invasion of Afghanistan was awarded a Robert Capa Gold Medal, an award for 'best published photographic reporting from abroad requiring exceptional courage and enterprise'. His portrait of a refugee girl in Afghanistan is considered by many the world's most recognizable photograph.
