Indoor ice skating rink opens in Portorož
Portorož - The largest festive ice rink in the region of Primorska was opened on Wednesday, located inside the former salt warehouse in Portorož. The 600 square metre ice rink was built by the Municipality of Piran and Avditorij Portorož, while its indoor location will allow for ice skating in all weather conditions.
The municipality thought of the indoor ice rink when looking for possible major activities that would not be that affected by the current Covid situation, as outdoor events are practically non-existent, said David Morgan from the Piran mayor's office.
The organisation will be overseen by Avditorij Portorož, which will also organise a varied programme of events during the festive season, but due to the anti-Covid measures in force, no major events are planned at the ice rink itself, Morgan said.
Piran Mayor Đenio Zadković pointed out that the ice skating rink will give a new purpose to the recently renovated Grando salt warehouse in Portorož, which could host more events in the future as well.
The 60-by-10 metre indoor ice rink will stay open until evening hours, with free access for children under the age of six. All visitors will have to wear masks and comply with the recovered-vaccinated-tested rule.
Meanwhile, outdoor ice skating rinks have been set up for the holiday season in Ljubljana and many other towns all over Slovenia, including Ptuj, Logatec, Domžale, Škofja Loka, Jesenice, Krško and Novo Mesto.
