Ljubljana - South Korean drama House of Hummingbird was declared best film and Finnish drama Tove won the audience award at the LGBT Film Festival in Ljubljana, which wraps up on Sunday.

House of Hummingbird by Bora Kim from 2018 is a coming-of age story about 14-year-old Eunhee, a lonely and awkward teenager struggling to figure out who they are.

The jury said coming-of-age movies were an important part of LGBTQ+ in that they help youths who are questioning their identity better understand themselves.

The film stands out by avoiding the genre's tropes, being a slow-burning and subtle story about family, looking for love and self-realisation, according to the jurors.

The film has bagged dozens of awards at international festivals, including the the Grand Prix of the Generation 14plus International Jury for the Best Film at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival.

Tove, a 2020 biography by Zaida Bergroth, focuses on the life of Tove Jansson, author of the popular series of Moomin books for children, from 1945 to the mid-1950s.

It depicts both her personal relationships, including with her critical father, who was a sculptor, and the creation of the Moomin books.

The festival featured 16 feature-length films and 26 shorts.
