Warsaw - Slovenian Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačnik has placed sixth in a ranking of Europe's best athletes as chosen by European news agencies.

Three more Slovenians made the rankings. NBA star Luka Dončić ranked 53rd, Olympic climbing champion Janja Garnbret 58th and another bicyclist, La Vuelta winner Primož Roglič, 64th.

The vote saw Serbian tennis player Novak Đoković emerge at the top, followed by Polish footballer Robert Lewandowski and Dutch Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen.

The Polish press agency PAP organises the annual vote and the STA is among the 26 participating agencies.
