State budget with record amount of revenue in December 2021
Ljubljana - The state budget recorded revenue of EUR 1.1 billion in December last year, the highest since general government revenue started to be recorded, show the preliminary estimates by the Finance Ministry. Expenditure meanwhile amounted to EUR 1.67 billion, with deficit standing at EUR 572 million.
State budget revenue in December 2021 was 14.7% higher than in December 2019, and 51.1% higher than in December 2020.
In December last year, Slovenia received EUR 176.2 million from the European budget, which is the highest amount since December 2019.
Like revenue, expenditure reached the highest monthly amount so far at EUR 1.67 billion last December, of which EUR 354.8 million was earmarked for investments and investment transfers.
Under the latest estimates, budget deficit in 2021 reached EUR 3.1 billion, which is 6.14% of Slovenia's gross domestic product (GDP).
In 2020, deficit stood at EUR 3.5 billion, while the decree on the framework for the drafting of general government budgets, adopted in the autumn, allows deficit to amount to 7.86% of GDP.
The latest estimates put the 2021 revenue at EUR 11.17 billion and expenditure at EUR 14.26 billion. Investment expenditure last year amounted to EUR 1.24 billion, which is 32% more than in 2019 and 36% more than in 2020.
At the end of 2021, the general government debt expressed as a share of GDP reached 77.5%, which is 2.3 percentage points less than in 2020.
