Erjavec said that news of the appointment was confirmed to him by the EU's High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.

Official confirmation of the appointment is expected during the day.

Slovenia currently has one head of EU mission - former Foreign Minister Samuel Žbogar was appointed head of mission to Kosovo earlier this year.
