Time trial Olympic champion Roglič to ride in Tour de France

Sport

Ljubljana - Slovenian rider Primož Roglič, the current Olympic champion in time trial, will again chase his first Tour de France title this year, as his team Jumbo-Visma confirmed on Tuesday he will ride in the prestigious race as one of the team's two leaders. "My main goal will be to finish the race, but it's clear that I want to finish first," Roglič said.

"I can't talk tactics yet, there are a number of options, but the main thing is to come to the Tour well prepared," said the 32-year-old, who dropped out of the 2021 Tour de France due to injuries and exhaustion after finishing second in the race in 2020.

At the time, he conceded to compatriot and now another cycling star Tadej Pogačar, who went on to win the 2021 Tour as well.

Roglič will kick off the new season at the Paris-Nice race and will miss out on what would be his first duel with Pogačar at the UAE Tour, instead participating in a number of other races ahead of the Tour de France.

Team Jumbo-Visma has currently six riders in mind for the French Grand Tour, including Denmark's Jonas Vingegaard, who finished second in last year's La Grande Boucle and will co-lead the team alongside Roglič this year.
