Omicron wave keeps spiralling
Ljubljana - A total of 6,855 new coronavirus cases were reported in Slovenia for Wednesday, a day after a record of more than 7,400 were confirmed. The estimate of active cases topped 50,000. Hospitalisations continued to decrease, and additional seven people with Covid died,, show fresh government data.
The National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) estimates 50,633 people are actively infected, an increase of almost 5,200 on the day before.
Government data show that hospitalisations dropped by eleven to 527 this morning. There are 154 Covid patients needing intensive care, same as yesterday's figure.
The 7-day average of daily cases increased by 429 to 4,796 and the 14-day incidence per 100,000 people is up by 245 to 2,387.
More than 13,300 PCR tests and over 98,500 rapid antigen tests were performed yesterday. The PCR test positivity rate stood at 51%.
Since the start of the pandemic, Slovenia has confirmed 512,793 coronavirus cases, show NIJZ data. The latest fatalities pushed the national death toll to 6,166, according to a Health Ministry chart.
