Western Balkans Ministers Discuss Safety in Region

Gorenak emphasised that cooperation among the security forces of these countries must adopt to the changes of the recent years. He moreover expressed belief that the progress made in this field in the region was tremendous.

He pointed out that the Western Balkan countries had carried out numerous reforms in the field of interior affairs and had reached different stages on their paths to join the EU.

The progress made so far and the changing circumstances are the "basic mission of the Brdo Process conference", the minister said.

Security as well as threats know no borders, Gorenak pointed out, therefore security cannot be maintained without efforts "for a comprehensive and interconnected area of safety".

Apart from regional cooperation, the conference focused on efficient management of migration flows to and across the Western Balkans and witnesses' protection in the region.

Today, Gorenak is scheduled to meet his Kosovar counterpart Bajram Rexhepi and Macedonian Interior Minister Gordana Jankulovska.

On Thursday, the ministers participated in a meeting dedicated to conditions to set up joint investigation task forces fighting people trafficking in SE Europe.
