Zakopane - Slovenian ski jumper Anže Lanišek finished third at the men's Ski Jumping World Cup event in Zakopane, Poland on Sunday in what is a cherry on top of Slovenia's team event win yesterday. Norway's Marius Lindvik claimed the first spot, whereas Germany's Karl Geiger was second.

The 25-year-old Lanišek scored 283.7 points with jumps of 134.5 metres in the first series and 135.5 metres in the second series, moving up from fifth to third place.

He managed to beat Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi, the current overall No. 1, who was in the lead after the first series, but finished fourth in the end.

In the overall World Cup rankings, Lanišek currently ranks sixth and is therefore the highest-ranking Slovenian ski jumper so far this season.

The remaining Slovenian competitors did not have such a great day today, with only Timi Zajc (9th) making it to the top ten apart from Lanišek, but they have been buoyed by the team event's victory yesterday, which bodes well for the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics.

Next weekend, the Ski Jumping World Cup circuit is moving to Germany where two individual events will be held.
