Ljubljana - A total of 10,288 new coronavirus cases were reported in Slovenia for Wednesday, a day after a record of more than 12,000 infections was confirmed, show fresh official data.

Roughly three weeks into the Omicron-driven wave, hospitals are gradually starting to fill up.

There were 580 Covid-19 patients in hospital this morning, up by 14 from the day before and an increase of over fifty week-on-week. The number of ICU cases dropped by one to 150.

Seven patients with Covid-19 died, government figures show.

The National Institute of Public Health estimates 90,710 people are actively infected, an increase of almost double the figure a week ago.

The 7-day average of daily cases increased by almost 500 to 8,068 and the 14-day incidence per 100,000 people is up by some 300 to 4,290.

More than 17,000 PCR tests and over 102,000 rapid antigen tests were performed yesterday. The PCR test positivity rate stood at 60%.

The positivity rate may not be directly comparable with past figures since new rules in place as of yesterday require a positive rapid test for access to a PCR test for everyone except high-risk groups.
