Križnar wins last World Cup event before Beijing

Willingen - Nika Križnar won the last women's Ski Jumping World Cup event before the Beijing Olympics after setting Slovenia's national record at 151 metres in the sole series in Willingen, Germany, on Sunday.

Križnar scored 131.6 points to clinch the victory ahead of Germany's Katharina Althaus, who garnered 126 with a jump of 145 metres and Russia's Aleksandra Kustova in third (150m/115.8pts).

Like yesterday at the same venue the second series was cancelled due to excessive winds.

"I'm so happy, this was an amazing jump, very long [...] it really augurs well for the Olympic Games which I look forward to," said the 21-year-old after her second World Cup win this season and her fourth individual career win.

Križnar's teammate Ema Klinec placed fifth after finishing third yesterday. Urša Bogataj was sixth and Jerneja Brecl ninth.

Today's event featured only 23 jumpers after Austria's Marita Kramer, the overall World Cup leader, tested positive for coronavirus and was forced to pull out along with her teammates. German Selina Freitag did not appear after a nasty fall yesterday.

Kramer won Saturday's event ahead of Althaus and Klinc. Kržnar placed fifth.

The highest ranked Slovenian in the overall World Cup standings in Urša Bogataj in 3rd ahead of Klinec in 4th and Križnar in 5th.
