Ljubljana - The number of new coronavirus cases was still up in weekly comparison on Sunday, as 8,575 new infections were detected, which compares to almost 8,400 a week ago. The National Institute of Public Health estimates there are now almost 172,400 active cases in the country.

Currently, 172,380 cases are considered active, which is 3,640 more than the day before.

Today, 818 people with Covid were in hospitals, up 165 from the day before. 138 were in intensive care, Health Minister Janez Poklukar told the press. Another nine people with Covid died on Sunday, show government data.

Poklukar also said that as of today, more detailed data on hospitalisations would be released to distinguish between patients who have been hospitalised because of Covid and those who have other illnesses but have also caught Covid.

Currently, 394 people are hospitalised because of Covid and 286 because of other disease. 119 patients are in intensive care due to Covid and 19 due to other disease.

The 7-day average of daily cases rose by 30 to 14,055 today and the 14-day incidence per 100,000 people was up by 174 to 8,179.

The test positivity rate was at nearly 78%, as access to PCR tests has been restricted to vulnerable groups and those who have positive rapid tests or self-tests.
