The donation will be used for training and equipment, the minister told the STA after the Slovenian delegation wrapped up a visit to an army base in Colorado Springs.

"This is especially important due to the difficult financial condition of the Slovenian Armed Forces," Hojs said, adding that the donation was expected to arrive within a month.

Hojs was in Colorado for a two-day official visit where he visited the graduation ceremony at the United States Air Force Academy and opened a photo exhibition on Afghanistan by Slovenian photographer Manca Juvan.

The announcement of a donation comes a day after the Vecer daily reported that Slovenia signed up to a EUR 1.2bn NATO programme of unmanned aerial surveillance drones at the NATO summit earlier this week.

Slovenia is a part of a group of 13 nations bankrolling the programme and is expected to contribute EUR 6.8m, according to media reports.
