Ljubljana - Slovenia reported 11,098 new cases of coronavirus for Monday, down about 5% over the week before and the continuation of a declining trend that has now persisted for five consecutive days.

The figures come from a similar number of rapid antigen tests as a week ago, whereas the number of PCR tests was much smaller yesterday since last Monday was the last day that positive rapid tests were double-checked with PCR tests.

The 14-day case notification rate has declined by almost a hundred to 8,827, with the seven-day average of new daily cases likewise down by about a hundred to 12,572.

Hospital figures, which normally trail infections by about two weeks, are rising, reflecting the peak of infections in late January.

There were 557 patients with Covid as their main condition this morning, up from 441 a day ago, plus 120 in intensive care compared to 116 yesterday.

The overall number of patients in hospital who have Covid rose by 80 to 1,044, government data show.

Another 19 deaths were reported, bringing the death count since the start of the pandemic to 6,505, according to a NIJZ tally that considers all those who died within 28 days after a confirmed infection.
