Just over 5,000 new coronavirus cases logged on Culture Day
Ljubljana - A total of 5,076 people tested positive for coronavirus in Slovenia on Tuesday, a public holiday. The figure is significantly below the over 11,00 cases reported for the day before or over 23,000 logged a week ago in an all-time high.
According to the National Institute of Public Health, the latest tally brings the 14-day notification rate per 100,000 to 8,239, down by 588 from the day before, and the 7-day average of new daily cases to 9,862, down by 2,710.
An estimated 173,691 people remain actively infected.
Figures released by the government show hospitalisations remain broadly stable with 423 patients hospitalised with Covid-19 as their main condition at regular wards plus 125 in intensive care units after 18 more patients with Covid-19 died yesterday.
ICU cases are thus up by five from yesterday and up by eight from the same day a week ago, while the number of Covid-19 patients at regular wards fell by 14 from yesterday but rose by 16 in a week.
A total of 1,056 hospital patients are infected with coronavirus.
Tuesday's infections were picked up from 1,566 PCR tests and 51,036 rapid antigen tests, which compares to over 17,000 and over 96,000, respectively, preformed a week ago.
Since last Tuesday positive rapid tests are no longer double-checked with the more reliable PCR tests.
