Ljubljana - Consumer confidence in Slovenia improved in February, as the relevant indicator was three percentage points up on a monthly basis, mainly due to more optimistic expectations regarding the economic situation in the country, and one point above the long-term average, the Statistics Office reported on Friday.

Consumer expectations regarding the economic situation in the country improved by eight percentage points in February compared to January, while expectations regarding the financial situation in households improved by seven percentage points.

Consumers' expectations regarding major purchases were more pessimistic, with the relevant indicator decreasing by three percentage points. The opinion indicator for the current financial situation in households meanwhile remained level on the previous month.

The Statistics Office noted the indicator of price trends in the last 12 months, which reached its highest value since October 2008, saying that this meant that an increasing number of consumers felt the rise in prices.

Compared to February last year, the consumer confidence indicator remained level. Expectations of the economic situation improved by five percentage points, while expectations of the financial situation in households deteriorated by five points.

The indicators measuring the current financial situation in households and expectations of major purchases remained level on an annual basis.
