Port operator Luka Koper reports 1% decline in profit for 2021

Economy

Koper - Port operator Luka Koper saw its net profit contract by 1% to EUR 31.8 million despite a 9% increase in revenue, which amounted to EUR 228.4 million.

Profit before income tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) declined by 1% to EUR 61.2 million, with pre-tax profit (EBIT) down 6% to EUR 31.3 million, shows a performance scorecard released on Friday.

All financial targets were met or exceeded, the company said, but operating costs rose at a faster pace as well along with the costs of services.

Total throughout hit 20.8 million tonnes, up 7% on the year before, with general cargoes, dry and bulk cargoes, and cars the best performing segments with double-digit growth rates.

The company's most important segment, containers, grew by 5% tonnage-wise and by 6% unit-wise, while liquid cargo volumes dropped marginally as the effects of Covid-19 reduced the throughput of petroleum products.
