A Quarter of Slovenian Firms Having Trouble Finding Workers

The global survey, in which Slovenia was included for the second year, shows Slovenian firms struggling to find in particular skilled workers, as well as staff for restaurants and hotels, maintenance specialists and machinery operators.

Aside from the shortage of skilled workers, Slovenian employers complain about lack of experience (21%) and shortage of hard skills and technical know-how (13%), Manpower Slovenija said.

Most employers say they try to overcome the hiring problems by offering existing employees additional training. This is a strategy listed by 23% of the employers included in the poll, down significantly over last year.

Slovenian companies are not using the strategy of retaining and promoting in-house staff, which indicates they "lack awareness of in-house know-how and experience," Manpower Slovenija sales director Romana Å ercelj said.
