Janša hosts meeting on security situation in Slovenia

Politics

Ljubljana - Prime Minister Janez Janša met heads of relevant institutions to assess foreign policy, security and cyber risks for Slovenia in the wake of Russia's latest steps regarding Ukraine, the prime minister's office said in a press release after Wednesday's working meeting.

The meeting comes on the eve of an emergency EU summit on Ukraine, which has been also called on Slovenia's initiative, and which Janša will attend before starting a two-day visit to Ukraine, where fears are growing of a potential Russian invasion.

EU leaders are expected to discuss the latest developments after Russia recognised on Monday Ukraine's regions Luhansk and Donetsk as independent republics.

After the summit, Janša will travel on to Ukraine to express Slovenia's support for Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic prospects and to confirm the country's commitment to Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty within its internationally recognised borders.
