London - Foreign Minister Anže Logar met his British counterpart Elizabeth Truss in London on Wednesday to sign a declaration of intent to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. Logar also met the president of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference, Alok Sharma, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry said.

Ministers Logar and UK Foreign Secretary Truss stressed that Slovenia and the United Kingdom are partners and allies, sharing common values and similar interests on many issues and policies.

The two countries, which mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year, share ties of friendship and cooperation, both bilaterally and at the multilateral level.

Both ministers also reaffirmed mutual interest in further strengthening relations between the two countries in various fields, and solemnly signed a joint declaration of intent to strengthen bilateral relations.

The declaration sets out three priorities for cooperation: foreign policy and security, the economy, and science, education and culture. Progress review meetings will be organised twice a year at the level of senior government representatives.

Logar and Truss exchanged views and positions on current international issues as well, with particular focus on developments in Russia and Ukraine and the situation in the Western Balkans.

Among the topics discussed was also the implementation of the Brexit agreement, which is experiencing major delays, especially in Northern Ireland. In this context, Logar expressed Slovenia's support for further constructive negotiations between the EU and London.

Logar also met the president of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference, Alok Sharma, with whom he discussed the conclusions of the COP26 conference in Glasgow, the upcoming COP27 conference in Egypt, and climate commitments in the face of the current major energy challenges.
