Ljubljana - Slovenia confirmed 1,911 new Covid cases on Thursday in what is the first time the number has dropped below 2,000 since early January. The epidemic continues to ebb as the number of currently active cases decreased by more than 5,000 to 52,648, show fresh official data.

Hospitalisations decreased further with government data showing 445 patients were treated for Covid as their main condition in hospitals this morning, down by 30 on the day before. A total of 100 required intensive care, up by two on yesterday.

The number of patients in hospitals who are infected with Covid dropped by 46 to 695. Another seven people with Covid died.

The 14-day incidence per 100,000 people dropped by 266 to 2,495 and the seven-day average of new cases by 269 to 2,421, show data by the National Institute of Public Health.

Since the start of the epidemic, Slovenia has logged almost 890,000 cases and reported some 6,750 Covid-related deaths.
