According to the cabinet, the number of overnight stays is to increase by 2% each year, the number of tourists by 4% per year and income from the export of travel services by 6-8% each year.
The strategy, dubbed "Partnership for Sustainable Development of Slovenian Tourism", is divided into three main development areas - higher competitiveness, favourable business environment and efficient and innovative marketing of Slovenia.
According to the Government Communication Office (UKOM), the document has been harmonised with all participants in Slovenian tourism - the public, private and civil sectors.
The main goal of the strategy drafted by the Economic Development and Technology Ministry is to establish an efficient development model that will apply to all key advantages and opportunities of Slovenia's tourism in an optimal way.
In line with the government's hopes tourism in 2016 would be completely based on sustainable development and Slovenia would be a highly developed destination offering a modern, diverse and high-quality experience based on innovative products and services with high added value.
The strategy moreover reads that Slovenia would become an attractive destination for distant markets through attractive and diverse products.
