RTV Slovenia temporarily halts reporting from Russia

Politics

Ljubljana - Public broadcaster RTV Slovenija has suspended reporting from Moscow due to the entry into force of a new law against misinformation that has led many other international media to leave Russia.

The correspondent from Moscow, Vlasta Jeseničnik, will therefore "not be reporting on the program until the possible consequences of the new legislation are carefully examined", the broadcaster said on Saturday.

RTV Slovenija will continue to closely monitor the developments in Ukraine through the remaining correspondent network and domestic foreign policy journalists.

Under the new Russian law, journalists face up to 15 years in prison for deliberately spreading "fake news" about the Russian military in Ukraine.

Several major international media have described the law as an attempt to criminalise independent reporting.
