Ljubljana - The Slovenian Caritas has sent humanitarian aid to Ukraine, with its first shipment, containing medicines, food, water and hygiene products, arriving in the country yesterday morning, the charity said yesterday.

The aid in the amount of 26 pallets is intended mostly for the most vulnerable groups in Kyiv, while some food was also distributed to refugees in Transcarpathia.

Until Saturday, the Slovenian Christian charity also raised EUR 203,000 in financial aid, with part of the funds already transferred to the Caritas Ukraine.

Slovenian companies including Krka, Mercator, Zikas, Intersport, and Supernova Projekti joined the charity's efforts.

The charity plans to send the second shipment to Ukraine next week, while it continues raising funds for people in the war-stricken country.

As part of a strategic humanitarian partnership with the Slovenian Foreign Ministry, it will also contribute funds for the Caritas Poland and Caritas Moldova to help Ukrainian refugees.
