Ljubljana - Slovenia recorded 746 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, a week-on-week increase of 16% that comes two weeks after a substantial relaxation of restrictions. This was the third day in a row that cases were up on the weekly basis.

The situation in hospitals continues to improve. There were 255 patients hospitalised due to Covid-19 this morning, down by 16, of which 74 in intensive care, two fewer than yesterday. Six patients died, government figures show.

The 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population continued to drop and stood at 1,140, whereas the seven-day rolling average of new daily cases rose slightly to 1,656, show data by the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ).

The NIJZ estimates there are now just over 24,000 active cases in the country, down by more than a thousand over the day before.

Slovenia recorded around 11,600 new cases last week, down by just 600 over the week before, whereas the number of patients in hospital with Covid-19 declined by a third and the number of deaths by a quarter.
